The Duke of Cakes' Delicious Diary: August

Posted on

Welcome to our blog! This post is the first in a new monthly series all about our favourite recent challenges and projects. From birthday cakes to wedding cakes, we love a creative brief and our customers rarely disappoint!

First up is a completely three-dimensional horse cake - as you might know, here at the Duke of Cakes we're keen riders, and equine cakes are becoming a bit of a speciality for us! We’ve become dab hands at creating two dimensional horsehead cakes, but on this occasion, we were asked to go 3D. We made the main body from cake, and then for the horse’s head, mixed rice crispies with melted marshmallow and allowed them to set in shape, to create birthday girl Jess’s beloved horse Pimm’s. Of course, we had to make a fondant Jess to sit next to her too, complete with riding hat, jacket and boots!

Another recent favourite was a rugby shirt cake, which was for Shelly – who as you might have guessed is a huge Bath Rugby fan! Shelly’s on the left, chilling out in her favourite deckchair, and on the right are her beloved grandchildren. We love creating fondant figures and we reckon this lot are almost as cute as the real thing!

Have you got a special occasion coming up? We’d love to help you celebrate it with a beautiful cake that’s as unique as you are – no challenge is too big! Get in touch and let’s talk about your design.
